Baba is Hint: A Spoiler-Free Guide - ABC

ABC

Once you complete level 05 of the ??? world, you have access to this one, seen at the top of the map.

Once you complete level 05 of the ??? world, you have access to this one, seen at the top of the map.

Initial ABC Map. It’s a tiny world.

Initial ABC Map. It’s a tiny world.

This is the last possible world you can “clear” to earn a flower. This flower is, as far as I can tell, useless. There are no more flower gates to unlock. You also don’t need to clear the ??? world to get to ABC, and there is no way further through the endgame from ABC. So, none of these puzzles are required to finish the game.

Remember that hints are invisible until the text is highlighted. Bold text discusses the rules. Italic text discusses all objects of the named type. Regular text discusses the actual instances. Text “in quotes” refers to the actual text in the level.

ABC 1: Lunar Gallery

About the Level

So this is the ABC world. Every level deals with the tricks you can use when you have access to the individual letters in nouns and properties.

Hints

Gentle Nudge: What word do you need to get rid of the Skulls?

Bigger Nudge: Could certain letters perhaps have more than one use?

ABC 2: BA

About the Level

And sometimes you get access to tiles with multiple letters, but still not full words.

Hints

Gentle Nudge: How many simultaneous statements do you need to win this level?

Bigger Nudge: What kind of arrangement of the four "BA"s will get you that amount of statements.

ABC 3: AB

Map ABC-3.jpg

Difficulty: ***
Hints

Gentle Nudge: How can you get all five belts out?

Bigger Nudge: What are the simultaneous sentences you need to win this level? Where do you need to put them?

Bigger Nudge: What pieces do you need in which order so that you can break up the "B A B A" and live?

ABC 4: Queue

About the Level

This might be one of my favorite levels in the game. I had to come back to it about ten or so times before it clicked, so be patient with yourself and don’t spoil it for yourself if you get stuck.

  • New material: connecting word Near

Near doesn’t get much use but you will need to learn it in order to get to the real ending. What counts as Near? How close do objects have to be to each other?

Hints

Gentle Nudge: Why do you suppose you have the letters "I" and "S" instead of another "Is"?

Bigger Nudge: What arrangement of words do you need to form both Baba is Push and Keke is Push?

Specific Hint: Is there any way you can get something to teleport one way, but not teleport back?

ABC 5: Wall

About the Level

Lots of people have questions about why “W-A-L-L is [anything]” doesn’t work as expected. Well, if you make W-A-L-L, you also make A-L-L. So, there’s that. Yes, the game recognizes “Wall,” but whatever thing “All” has, it’s redundant to say “Wall” does.

Hints

Gentle Nudge: Which Door can you open to free up all the letters "W-A-L-L"?

Bigger Nudge: How will you get out of the pen? Is this level possible if there were no Doors?

ABC 6: Stardrop

Map ABC-6.jpg

Difficulty: ****
Hints

Gentle Nudge: Think how you're going to get a Flag. What object will be Flag?

Bigger Nudge: Once you figure that out, how will you get the Flag to a place you can reach it? What prevents this? How can you stop that from happening?

Specific Hint: You need two statements, yet if you create only one of them, the level is unsolvable. Where and how can you create the statements simultaneously?

ABC Extra 1: Meteor Strike

About the Level

This level might have my favorite trick in the whole game - well, maybe second-favorite behind one in the very final world.

Hints

Gentle Nudge: Why do you suppose "Love" exists?

Bigger Nudge: What are the steps required to get the Star to be a Flag?

Specific Hint #1: Just like ABC 6, you need to create two sentences simultaneously. What are those sentences?

Specific Hint #2: How will these two sentences be arranged? What pieces do those two have in common?

World Complete!

There, the smallest world complete. If you’ve been clearing every single world so far, then this is your 11th, and final, flower. Now you can return to the ??? world and complete it, if you haven’t done so already. If you’ve figured out the secret to ??? then you can instead progress to the nearly-final world: The Depths.
